Hardware sales decreased 34 percent this week to 1.44 million units, from 2.19 million units last week. The PSP is the only platform to be up week-on-week. This is the first week of 2013 and year-on-year sales are down 22 percent. All 7th generation platforms are down year-on-year. Both 8th generation platforms, the 3DS and Vita, that were out a year ago are up year-on-year.

Software milestones this week in the top 30: Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) passed the 11 million mark; and Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) passed the nine million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Hardware home console sales week-on-week are down across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are down 145,296 (-33%) to 300,661 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 173,087 (-51%) to 169,602 units sold. The Wii U sold 134,849 units, a decrease of 69,232 (-34%). The Wii sold 81,173 units, a decrease of 88,970 (-52%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the PSP, and down for everything else. The 3DS sold 495,133 units, which is down 198,064 (-29%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 105,948 units which is up 19,355 (22%) compared to last week. The PlayStation Vita is down 27,932 (-24%) to 88,786 units sold. The DS is down 64,187 (-50%) to 63,684 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 747,413 units (-34%) to 1.44 million units.
The 3DS and PlayStation Vita are up year-on-Year. The PlayStation 3 is down 130,804 (-30%), the Wii is down 224,994 (-73%), and the Xbox 360 is down 94,946 (-36%). The PSP is down 134,184 (-56%), the DS is down 36,483 (-36%), the Vita is up 42,624 (92%) and the 3DS is up 26,317 (6%). Year on year sales are down 417620 units (-22%).
The PlayStation 3 has lead for the second straight week and the fourth time in 10 weeks. The Xbox 360 led for five of the other weeks and the Wii U for one. The PlayStation 3 has a 55 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 31 percent market share; and the Wii has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Wii is up, and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are down.
3DS hardware remains well above its rival, the PlayStation Vita, and every other handheld. The 3DS outsold the Vita by nearly 6 to 1. The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by nearly 8 to 1. The PlayStation Vita was outsold its predecessor, the PSP. The PSP has a 62 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the DS with 38 percent. The 3DS has an 85 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has an 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are up.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) is at number four with sales of 156,394. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number five with sales of 134,535.
Just Dance 4 (Wii) is at number six with sales of 121,473. FIFA Soccer 13 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 108,233. Far Cry 3 (X360) is at number eight with sales of 105,391. New Super Mario Bros. U (WiiU) is at number nine with sales of 94,173. Far Cry 3 (PS3) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 92,073.
Software home console sales week on week are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 2.41 million, a decrease of 2.32 million units (-49%). The Xbox 360 sold 2.41 million games this week, a decrease of 3.01 million units (-56%). Wii software sales are down 1.58 million units (-54%) to 1.35 million games sold. The Wii U sold 265,095 games, a decrease of 168,894 (-39%).
Handheld software sales week on week are down across the board. The 3DS sold 1.29 million games, which is down 538,124 units (-29%). The DS sold 750,658 games, a decrease of 798,085 units (-52%) week on week. PSP game sales are down 111,890 units (-31%) to 351,708 games sold. The Vita sold 190,926 games, a decrease of 181,470 (-49%). Total combined software is down 8.70 million units (-49%) week on week to 9.02 million.
Year on year software totals is up for the 3DS and PlayStation Vita and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 127,496 units (-5%), the Wii is down 1.21 million units (-47%) and the Xbox 360 is down 373,407 units (-13%). The DS is down 252,049 units (-25%), the PSP is down 157,487 units (-31%), the 3DS is up 538,124 units (18%), and the Vita is up 140,140 units (276%). Total combined software is down 1.52 million units (-14%) games sold year on year.
Software sales have decreased dramatically for a second straight week as the post-holiday period begins. The PlayStation 3 has led for the first time since the week ending November 3. This is the second time in 10 weeks. The Xbox 360 has a 39 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 with 39 percent, and the Wii with 22 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago the Wii is up, and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are down.
The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the third week in a row. It has also led for six of the last 10 weeks. The DS led for the other four weeks. The DS has a 68 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 32 percent market share. The 3DS has an 87 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 13 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS and PSP are up, and the DS and Vita are down.
