Hardware home console sales week on week are up for the Xbox 360 and Wii and down for the PlayStation 3. PlayStation 3 sales are down 8,361 (-4%) to 216,318 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 25,130 (16%) to 180,558 units sold. The Wii sold 49,388 units, which is up 11,446 (30%).
Handheld sales are up for the DS, PSP and Vita, and is down for the 3DS. The 3DS sold 215,764 units, which is down 7,205 (-3%) week on week. The PlayStation Vita is up 369 (1%) to 38,076 units sold. The PSP sold 35,187 units which is up 1,973 (6%) compared to last week. The DS is up 2,611 (10%) to 27,517 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 25,963 (4%) to 762,808.
The 3DS continues be the only platform up year on year. The PlayStation 3 is down 22,656 (-9%), the Wii is down 117,434 (-70%), and the Xbox 360 is down 25,520 (16%). The PSP is down 49,274 (-58%) the DS is down 50,359 (-65%) and the 3DS is up 4,834 (2%). Year on year sales are down 222,333 (-23%).
The gap between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox has decreased, though the PlayStation 3 still holds a 36,000 lead. The PlayStation 3 has been the bestselling home console all year. The PlayStation 3 has a 48 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 41 percent market share; and the Wii has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are up, while the Wii is down.
3DS hardware remains well above its rival, the PlayStation Vita, outselling it by nearly 6 to 1. The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by nearly 8 to 1, while the Vita barely outsold its predecessor, the PSP, only by 2,889 units. The PSP has a 56 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the DS has a 44 percent. The 3DS has an 85 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the 3DS and PlayStation Vita are up, and the DS and PSP are down.
