Overview
Hardware sales decreased 20 percent this week to 534,930 units, from 671,579 units last week. All platforms are down week-on-week. Year-on-year sales are down 37 percent. The Vita is the only platform up year-on-year.
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. DMC for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is this week’s top debut. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number one with sales of 362,982. The Xbox 360 debuted at number two with sales of 183,109.
Software milestones this week in the top 30: Assassin’s Creed III (X360) passed the four million mark.
Worldwide Hardware

Hardware home console sales week-on-week are down across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are down 25,622 (-19%) to 112,583 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 17,558 (-17%) to 84,816 units sold. The Wii U sold 39,390 units, a decrease of 13,034 (-25%). The Wii sold 3,605 units, a decrease of 13,253 (-29%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are down across the board. The 3DS sold 176,740 units, which is down 43,085 (-20%) week-on-week. The DS is down 10,187 (-26%) to 28,336 units sold. The PSP sold 32,191 units which is down 4,384 (-12%) compared to last week. The PlayStation Vita is down 9,526 (-25%) to 328,269 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 136,649 units (-20%) to 534,930 units.
The PlayStation Vita is the only platform up year-on-Year. The PlayStation 3 is down 82,644 (-42%), the Wii is down 189,043 (-73%), and the Xbox 360 is down 101,146 (-54%). The PSP is down 43,638 (-58%), the DS is down 29,308 (-51%), the Vita is up 11,950 (73%) and the 3DS is down 18,102 (-9%). Year on year sales are down 312,541 units (-37%).

Hardware sales have dropped significantly since the week ending December 22. All four home consoles have dropped for four straight weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led for four straight weeks and five of the last 10 weeks. The Xbox 360 led for four of the other weeks and the Wii U one of the weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 49 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share; and the Wii has a 14 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all home consoles (minus the Wii U) are down.

Handheld sales have dropped significantly since the holiday peak. The 3DS, DS, and Vita have all dropped for four straight weeks and the PSP for two straight weeks. The 3DS remains well above all the other handhelds, outselling them combined.
The PSP has a 53 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the DS with 47 percent. The 3DS has an 86 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 14 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down
Worldwide Software
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. DMC for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is this week’s top debut. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number one with sales of 362,982. The Xbox 360 debuted at number two with sales of 183,109. The game launched worldwide.
Digimon Adventure (PSP) debuted at number nine with sales of 47,036.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number three with sales of 98,186. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) is at number four with sales of 89,560 units. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) is at number five with sales of 81,762 units.
Just Dance 4 (Wii) is at number six with sales of 55,039. FIFA Soccer 13 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 49,130. Halo 4 (X360) is at number eight with sales of 47,335. New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 46,262.

Software home console sales week on week are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.41 million, a decrease of 72,019 units (-5%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.18 million games this week, a decrease of 295,490 units (-20%). Wii software sales are down 221,111 units (-63%) to 564,382 games sold. The Wii U sold 76,346 games, a decrease of 35,917 (-32%).
Handheld software sales are up for the PSP and down for everything else. The 3DS sold 443,636 games, which is down 93,115 units (-17%). The DS sold 305,766 games, a decrease of 135,853 units (-53%) week on week. PSP game sales are up 26,511 units (17%) to 185,660 games sold. The Vita sold 75,071 games, a decrease of 27,565 (-27%). Total combined software is down 854,559 units (-17%) week on week to 4.24 million.
Year on year software totals is up for the PlayStation Vita and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 220,979 units (-14%), the Wii is down 973,700 units (-63%) and the Xbox 360 is down 609,064 units (-34%). The DS is down 347,933 units (-53%), the PSP is down 101,979 units (-35%), the 3DS is down 87,695 units (-17%), and the Vita is up 55,286 units (279%). Total combined software is down 2.21 million units (-34%) games sold year on year.

Software sales have decreased for a fourth straight week for all four home consoles. The PlayStation 3 has led for three straight weeks, however only by a little bit. Though the gap has increased slightly this week. The Xbox 360 led for the nine weeks prior.
The PlayStation 3 has a 45 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 37 percent, and the Wii with 18 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all four home consoles (minus the Wii U) are down.

The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the fifth straight week and for the seventh time in 10 weeks. The DS led for the other three weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively.
The DS has a 62 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 38 percent market share. The 3DS has an 86 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 14 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
