Weekly Sales Analysis, 1 June – GRID 2, Fuse

Overview

Overall hardware sales decreased by two percent week-on-week. Week-on-week sales are up for the Wii U and DS, and down for everything else. Overall year-on-year sales are down 22 percent. There are also no platforms to be up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 has dropped by seven percent year-on-year, the smallest drop. The DS has dropped by 76 percent year-on-year, the biggest by percent.

Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. GRID 2 (PS3) debuted at number four with sales of 61,408, while the Xbox 360 version debuted at number six with sales of 50,368. The game launched in North America and Europe.

Software milestones this week in the top 30: Tomodachi Collection: shin Seikatsu (3DS) passed the one million mark.

Worldwide Hardware

Hardware

Hardware home console sales week-on-week is up for the Wii U, and down for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360. PlayStation 3 sales are down 1,144 (-1%) to 133,877 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 2,204 (-2%) to 86,898 units sold. The Wii sold 28,414 units, a decrease of 1,003 (-3%). The Wii U sold 27,752 units, an increase of 1,963 (8%).

Handheld sales week-on-week have increased for the DS, and decreased for the 3DS, Vita and PSP. The 3DS sold 138,038 units, which is down 7,689 (-5%) week-on-week. The PSP is down 985 (-2%) to 51,655 units sold. The Vita sold 31,985 units which is down 801 (-2%) compared to last week. The DS is up just 38 (0%) to 14,648 units sold. Total week on week sales are down 11,825 units (-2%) to 513,267 units sold.

There are no platforms up year-on-year. The PlayStation 3 is down 10,428 (-7%), the Wii is down 28,220 (-50%), and the Xbox 360 is down 30,294 (-26%). The PSP is down 6,015 (-10%), the DS is down 47,640 (-76%), the Vita is down 14,715 (-32%) and the 3DS is down 35,340 (-20%). Year on year sales are down 144,900 units (-22%).

Hardware Home Consoles

Home console hardware sales have increased for two weeks for the Wii U, and decreased for one week for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. The PlayStation 3 has led for the last 23 weeks. Wii and Wii U sales have been nearly identical for the last eight weeks. The Wii has outsold the Wii U for the last four weeks.

The PlayStation 3 has a 54 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has a 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all for home consoles are down.

Hardware Handhelds

Handheld hardware sales have decreased for the 3DS and Vita for one week. The gap between the 3DS and Vita has decreased this week to 107,000 units this week, down from 113,000 units last week.

The PSP has a 78 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds, while the DS has a 22 percent market share. The 3DS has an 81 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 19 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.

Worldwide Software

Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. GRID 2 (PS3) debuted at number four with sales of 61,408, while the Xbox 360 version debuted at number six with sales of 50,368. The game launched in North America and Europe.

Fuse (X360) debuted at number 10 with sales of 31,281, while the PlayStation 3 version debuted at number 14 with sales of 27,211. The game launched in North America and Europe.

Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) is at number one with sales of 68,017. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS) is at nbmer two with sales of 63,291. Tomodachi Collection: Shin Seikatsu (3DS) is at number three with sales of 61,905. Resident Evil: Revelations (PS3) is at number five with sales of 58,134.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 44,789. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) is at number eight with sales of 40,948. FIFA Soccer 13 (PS3) is at number nine with sales of 35,705.

Software

Software home console sales week-on-week are up for the Wii and Xbox 360, and down for the Wii U and PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.36 million units, a decrease of 10,770 units (-1%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.25 million games this week, an increase of 226,699 units (-8%). Wii software sales are up 63,030 units (14%) to 514,799 games sold. The Wii U sold 98,166 games, a decrease of 7,968 (-8%).

Handheld software sales week-on-week are up for the DS and PSP and down for 3DS and Vita. The 3DS sold 539,907 games, which is down 227,364 units (-30%). The DS sold 320,582 games, an increase of 15,261 units (5%) week-on-week. The PSP sold 152,995 games, an increase of 24,338 (19%). Vita game sales are down 22,920 units (-19%) to 98,535 games sold. Total combined software is up 60,306 units (1%) week-on-week to 4.17 million.

Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is up 7,809 units (1%), the Wii is down 207,997 units (-29%) and the Xbox 360 is down 86,253 units (-6%). The DS is down 89,648 units (-22%), the PSP is down 45,307 units (-23%), the 3DS is down 301,667 units (-36%), and the Vita is down 26,827 units (-21%). Total combined software is down 651,724 units (-13%) games sold year on year.

Software Home Consoles

Home console software sales have increased for the Xbox 360 for three weeks and the Wii for one week, while the PlayStation 3 and Wii U have dropped for one week.

The PlayStation 3 has a 44 percent market share, the Xbox 360 has a 40 percent market share, and the Wii has a 16 percent market share. Compared to ten weeks ago all four home console software sales are down.

Software Handhelds

The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the 24th straight week. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively. The 3DS sold more than five times as many games as the Vita. The DS sold more than two times as many games as the PSP.

The DS has a 68 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 32 percent market share. The 3DS has an 85 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handheld software sales are down.
