Sony: PlayStation 4 titles to Cost at Most $60

Sony Computer Entertainment of America CEO Jack Tretton has told CNBC that the price of games will not increase for the PlayStation 4. Games will cost at most $60 for Sony’s next generation console. The console will also offer smaller games for as low as $0.99.

“I think people are willing to pay if they see value there and I think there’s more choice than ever before for consumers,” said Tretton. “We’re going to welcome free-to-play models; games from 99 cents up to those $60 games.”

“But if you really see where the heat is for the true gamer on the console it’s still that big-form experience that typically runs upwards of $50 million to develop and will justify that $60 price point and will give people hours and hours of gameplay on a daily basis for months and years to come,” he added.

Tretton also said Sony has several events planned between now and the consoles launch this Holiday season. Sony has received some criticism for not showing what the PlayStation 4 console will look like, but Sony is more concerned with “what comes out of the box, not what it looks like. I can promise you that it will be plastic, it won’t be triangle shaped or round. You’ll see the box in due time.”
