There are reports that GameStop has stopped taking pre-orders for the Xbox One. Polygon has called many stores around the US and all of them have stopped taking pre-orders. However, they are still taking PlayStation 4 pre-orders.
GameStop has stopped taking pre-orders because they have only been given a small allocation. One GameStop in California will only be given 16 Xbox Ones at launch, while they will be getting 60 PlayStation 4s.
“We were only given an allocation of 16 Xbox Ones but we have 60 PlayStation 4s and we’re still taking orders,” said a store manager in California. Another manager in Texas said, “There’s no point trying any GameStops. We’ve stopped that SKU until we get notice.”
The amount of consoles that each store will be given is determined by Microsoft and not GameStop. However, pre-orders can still be made on GameStop’s website.
“Due to high demand, GameStop is not taking additional store reservations for the Xbox One Day One Edition,” said a spokesperson from GameStop. “However, reservations can still be made at www.gamestop.com … In the meantime, the Xbox One wireless controller and top Xbox One games like: Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5, and Kinect Sports Rivals are available for pre-order at all GameStop stores or online.”
