PlayStation 4 Doesn’t Always have to be Connected to the Internet

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida spoke with Eurogamer and has cleared up several things about the PlayStation 4. Sony spent a good chunk of its PlayStation 4 unveil conference about the social networking aspects of it and many people have feared the new console has to be connected to the internet at all times. Yoshida has confirmed this is not the case.

“You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected,” said Yoshida. “The system has the low-power mode – I don’t know the official term – that the main system is shut down but the subsystem is awake. Downloading or updating or you can wake it up using either the tablet, smartphone or PS Vita.”

Yoshida has said that while social networking is very important for the PlayStation 4, they understand that not everyone likes it and some people would rather play games alone.

“Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally,” added Yoshida. “Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don’t want to connect to anyone else, you can do that.”
