Since going free-to-play about a month ago, Funcom says that Age of Conan: Unchained has gained over 300,000 new players.
“The activity levels on the servers are booming with a fourfold increase in players during July, we more than doubled the revenue generated from the game, and we have experienced a positive development in subscriber numbers,” said Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas.
Naturally, Aas thinks the launch of their new hybrid business model has been very successful, and he says it gives the publisher great hope for the game’s future.
“We are delighted to see the success of Age of Conan: Unchained,” added Executive Producer and Game Director Craig Morrison. “We have been working hard to show that we are one of the best, and most unique, MMO experiences on the market.”
Funcom says its developers are hard at work on new content, including a DLC pack called “Savage Coast of Turan.” Designed to be a tie-in with the upcoming Conan movie, the adventure pack will introduce new areas to the game world, as well as new monsters, characters, and player equipment that can all be seen in the movie when it debuts in theaters on August 18.
