Baird Equity Research analyst Colin Sebastian spoke with Computer and Video Games about how much Sony and Microsoft will sell their next generation home consoles. Sebastian after being at several meeting that were off the record with “a number of companies,” believes that the consoles could be sold for $400.
“Our checks suggest that next-generation console hardware will be largely built from ‘off the shelf’ high-end PC components, along with hybrid physical/digital distribution models, enhanced voice controls and motion sensing (Kinect integration with every Xbox), and broad multimedia capabilities,” Sebastian said. “The cost of production and retail price points should be lower than prior console launches.”
The next generation Xbox having a PC architecture would help Microsoft tie it up with Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, Sebastian believes.
